    • More than 15 miles long, this trail encircles the city and links neighborhoods, business districts, parks and schools. Walkers, runners, skaters and bikers use the trail for recretion and as an alternative to the highway. Officers from the Owensboro Police Department patrol the trail to ensure safety and provide assistance.

    • The highlight of this 300-acre park, operated by the city of Owensboro, is its golf facilities: a 9-hole, par 3 course, an 18-hole regulation course, a driving range and a pro shop.     • This 1,106 acre park, located about five miles northeast of Henderson, is open to the public for most recreational uses including hiking, hunting and fishing. Slightly more than half of the property consists of bottomland, which includes about 65-70 acres of swampland, while the rest is gently sloping uplands. This is the only state forest that has significant amounts of bottomland hardwoods and swampland, which makes it a valuable addition to the state forest system.

    • 858 acres located between Hwy. 502 and 109. Hunting and fishing allowed under state regulations. Primitive camping only and boat ramp access from Utley Road. The WMA is primarily wetlands with some shoreline. Opportunities for use include waterfowl hunting, fur trapping, fishing in the main creek channel and bird watching.

    • This 188-acre park has a fishing lake and four miles of wooded trails for biking and hiking. Open April 1 to November 1.
  • Lake Beshear
    • Dawson Springs
    • Located on the edge of Dawson Springs, Lake Beshear is one of the best bass-producing lakes in Kentucky. In the center of the Pennyrile Forest State Park, it also is known for white crappie, bluegill, green sunfish, longear sunfish, channel catfish and blue catfish. There is a boat ramp.

    Madisonville City Park

    • With over 250 acres of trails, playgrounds, lakes and golf courses, the Madisonville City Park is a place where families can have hours of fun. Play golf on a 9-hole golf course or an 18-hole disc golf course, fish in two stocked lakes, take a dip in the swimming pool, walk a 1.25 miles trail or play volleyball and tennis at this city-operated park.

    • This 863-acre forest hideaway on the edge of Hopkins County is cited by many as one of Kentucky's most beautiful state parks. Visitors can mountain bike, horeseback ride, canoe, hike and play golf and tennis. The park's Lake Beshear is popular with fishermen. A lodge welcomes overnight guests and the park restaurant serves Kentucky specialties including fried chicken. The park golf course, expanded to 18 holes in 2003, is in the middle of a small valley and is surrounded by rolling hills.
  • Pennyrile Nature Trail

    • This 13.5 mile trail stretches from Dawson Springs to Pennyrile Forest State Park. Hikers will see abundant birds and other wildlife as they hike the trail, travels along the top of bluffs with scenic overlooks and follows part of the Tradewater River.

    • One of the larger county/city parks in Kentucky. It has a 4-H Activity Center, outood arena, covered demonstration area, miles of horseback riding trails, nature walks, two pavilions, two historic log structures, picnic areas with BBQ grills, restroom facilities and a tractor pull area. The park is being developed to offer even more.
  • The Livermore Bridge
    • Has made it into Ripley's Believe It Or Not for being the "only bridge in the world that starts in one county, crosses two rivers and a different county, then ends up back in the county in which it started."

  • Lake Malone State Park

    • This peaceful lake offers camping, swimming, boat docks, ramps and boat rentals. Scenery is compelling along the shorelines, with cliffs that rise to 200 feet in places.

  • Luke's Town and Country Flea Market

    • Luke's Flea Market is located on 13 acres where each week an average of 400 dealers sell their collectibles. Every week Luke's is open all day on Mondays beginning around 8 am and closing at 5 pm. On Tuesday, the flea market opens at daybreak and vendors close up around noon. You can find just about anything you need here from produce, to antiques, to livestock in the back! Memorial Day and Labor Day are the busiest weekends of the year, so they are open on Sundays of those weekends.

    • Much of this 46,591-acre wildlife area is reclaimed coal-mined land. There are numerous excavated ridges and water-filled strip mine pits. Good deer, turkey, quail, waterfowl and small-game hunting. Horseback riding is allowed on maintained roads.

  • Rails to Trails

    • This six-mile handicap-accessible trail connects Central City and Greenville and is used by bikers, runners and walkers. There are rest areas along the way. Rare birds, wildlife, a covered bridge and an antique caboose that houses antiquities of railroading in Kentucky and abroad are among the sights along the trail.

    • Stay close to town and enjoy a peaceful park with 125 camping sites, clean showers, electricity and wooded lots. Learn about local history while exploring a replica of Old Fort Hartford.
  • Peabody Wildlife Management Area

    • Reclaimed coal mine lands provide birding and fishing opportunities. The area is populated by deer, turkey, waterfowl and small game, and is known as one of the best quail sites in the state. There is a one-half mile horse trail.

  • Lee K. Nelson Wildlife Viewing Area and Outdoor Lab

    • This wildlife area encompasses many of the environments found in Western Kentucky including a prairie, forest, wetlands and an oxbow river. A learning lab is used for art and biology classes and for field days for students. The site is part of the Higginson-Henry Wildlife Management Area.
  • Moffit Lake Campground and Recreation Area
